Cajun Style at Larry’s French Market
When it comes to Cajun food, Larry’s French Market is si bon! The friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, and food made the old-fashioned Cajun way, put Larry’s first on the list for delicious dining. It must be “lagniappe”or “something extra” that they put in the food which sets the tone for this genuine Cajun restaurant.
Larry’s was established in 1975 by his father, A.J. Judice, and has been a family favorite across Southeast Texas and into Louisiana ever since. If you’re not Cajun when you got here, you’ll feel like it by the time you leave!
At lunchtime you can eat off the steamer table and the prices are reasonable and the food is oh-so tempting. For dinner, come in during crawfish season for some that can’t be topped. Larry says, “Even though the prices have been a little high this year, the crawfish have been full and definitely in demand. It’s been a great season.”
The menu is packed full of authentic Cajun specialties like crawfish pistolettes, dirty rice, grilled or fried poboys, fried alligator (seasonal), and there is a mouth-watering array of steaks and fish. If you’re really hungry, add a rack of baby back ribs or a skewer of shrimp to your order.
Three nights a week, bring your dancing shoes for a little “fais-dodo”. The phrase means “go to sleep” but in French-speaking Louisiana, it took on the added meaning of “a party where families came together, pushed back the rug, kicked off their shoes and danced the night away while the little ones slept.” Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, Larry’s hosts the best Cajun bands found in these parts so stop on by for a little “fais-dodo”! Who knows -you might just get to play the scrub board!
